How to use the calculator
Start with the same source amount you plan to convert. Enter the reference rate shown by Rateory or another neutral source, then enter the rate offered by your provider. If the provider deducts a fixed fee from the sending amount, include it in the fee field.
The tool compares the target-currency amount produced by the reference rate with the amount produced by the provider rate after the fee. This gives you both an absolute difference and a percentage gap.
What the percentage means
The effective gap is the percentage by which the provider result differs from the reference result under the assumptions you entered. It is not a legal or accounting definition of a provider’s markup; it is a practical comparison measure.
If the provider charges a fee separately instead of deducting it from the converted amount, add that fee to your total cost manually. Different providers structure fees differently, so always check the actual quote terms.
Why a “zero fee” quote can still cost more
A provider can make money through the exchange-rate spread rather than a visible fee. That is why a quote labeled “zero fee” can still deliver less target currency than a provider that charges a small explicit fee but uses a better rate.
For the most useful comparison, focus on the final amount delivered and the total amount you pay. Read our exchange-rate spread guide for a deeper explanation.
Important limitation
This tool is for informational comparison. It does not execute a transaction, predict future rates or guarantee that any provider quote will remain available.
